The grant funded the costs of travel to Wellington, New Zealand, where I gave a talk to Victoria University Wellington on the Arab Spring and the signer Maher Zain.

The grant funded the costs of travel to Indonesia to deliver talks and meet with scholars at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta (Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia) and Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta, Indonesia).

The grant also provided funds for summer teaching salary in 2007, multiple research trips, promotion of the completed book, and a reduction of teaching responsibilities for the fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters.
Fulbright-Hays Fellowship, Damascus, Syria and Istanbul, Turkey: October 2002-December 2003
The fellowship funded dissertation research. During the grant, I also delivered a lecture in Arabic at Damascus University on Muslims’ influence on American history, gave a lecture in Arabic on the U.S. system of higher education, and participated in US-Syrian student dialogues at Damascus University.
